Sled Vertical Leg Press

Lie on your back on the vertical leg press sled with your back flat against the pad. Place your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform, heels flat. Push through your heels to extend your legs and lift the sled upward. Pause briefly at near full extension, then slowly bend your knees to lower back to start. Keep your core engaged and control the movement throughout.

How to Do the Sled Vertical Leg Press

  1. Lie back on the vertical leg press bench with your head and shoulders supported.
  2. Place your feet shoulder width apart on the platform above you, heels flat.
  3. Grip the side handles for stability and take a breath to brace your core.
  4. Release the safety catch and press the platform upward until your legs are extended without locking your knees hard.
  5. Slowly bend your knees to lower the platform back toward your chest.
  6. Stop the descent once your knees are near your torso or your lower back starts to round off the bench.
  7. Drive back up through your heels to complete the rep.
  8. Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps.

Common Mistakes

  • Letting the platform crash down: Losing control on the way down puts sudden stress on the knees and hips. Lower the weight at the same controlled speed as the press.
  • Flaring the knees out: Letting the knees splay away from the feet reduces quad tension and stability. Keep knees tracking over your toes.
  • Snapping into lockout: Forcing the knees straight at the top can hyperextend the joint. Stop just short of a hard lockout.
  • Placing feet too narrow: A cramped foot position can twist the knees under heavy load. Keep a shoulder width stance for a stable press.
