A true max squat attempt puts enormous load through your spine, hips, and knees, and going for one without a rack, safety pins, or a spotter is a real way to get hurt if you miss. Most lifters — even competitive ones — only test a true max a handful of times a year.

This calculator runs your squat weight and reps through two well-established strength formulas, then averages the results so no single formula's quirks skew your number.
Epley formula: 1RM = weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30). Epley is the formula baked into most gym calculators and tends to sit slightly higher, especially as rep count climbs.
Brzycki formula: 1RM = weight × (36 ÷ (37 - reps)). Brzycki is generally regarded as more precise in the 3-10 rep range, which covers the vast majority of squat working sets.
For a compound movement like the squat, where fatigue accumulates fast across multiple heavy leg-driven reps, neither formula alone is exact — that's why this calculator caps reps at 12 and averages both formulas rather than trusting one over the other.

Yes, indirectly. Low-bar squats generally let most lifters handle slightly more weight than high-bar due to better leverage on the hip hinge, so your estimated 1RM will differ between the two even at identical technique quality. Compare your numbers using the same bar position each time rather than mixing them.
Significantly. This calculator assumes every rep in your working set goes to the same depth as the 1RM you're estimating. If your reps are above parallel, you'll overestimate your true full-depth max — always base the calculation on reps performed to at least hip-crease-below-knee depth for a realistic number.
Estimate for almost all regular training. Reserve a true tested max for a powerlifting meet, a planned max-out day with a spotter and safety pins, or when your estimated 1RM has plateaued for 12+ weeks and you want to confirm where you actually stand.
