Ez Barbell Standing Wrist Curl is a beginner barbell exercise for the biceps brachii, with the brachialis and forearms assisting. Most lifters train it for 3 to 4 sets of 12 to 20 reps.
The Ez Barbell Standing Wrist Curl is a curl variation using an EZ bar, performed standing. This EZ bar variation isolates the biceps through a focused curling motion. Suitable for most training levels since the load and range are easy to control.
Use the standing EZ bar wrist curl at the end of an arm, pull or forearm session, for 3 to 4 sets of 12 to 20 reps. It is a small-muscle isolation movement that recovers quickly, so it can appear two to three times a week.
Grip the angled parts of the bar so the wrists sit in a slightly turned position that is easier on the joints than a straight bar. Start with the empty 10 kg EZ bar or 10 to 15 kg total and add 2.5 kg when 20 reps with a full range become easy. The most common fault is the elbows bending to help the bar up; straighten the arms and accept a smaller, honest range.
It works the wrist flexors along the inside of the forearm and the finger flexors that control grip. The behind-the-back position keeps the elbows straight and takes the biceps out of the movement.
The EZ bar puts the wrists at a slight angle that many people find more comfortable, especially behind the back. Load and muscle activation are similar, so use whichever feels better on the wrists.
Two to three times a week works well, since the forearms recover fast and respond to higher frequency. Keep the sets in the 12 to 20 rep range and progress the load slowly.
