How to Do the Battling Ropes Power Slam

  1. Anchor the rope and stand facing it with feet shoulder-width apart, holding one end in each hand.
  2. Drop into an athletic stance with knees bent, chest up, and core braced.
  3. Extend your hips and rise onto the balls of your feet as you swing both rope ends overhead.
  4. At the top, reach the ropes as high as you can with arms nearly straight.
  5. Slam the ropes down violently, dropping back into a squat as your arms whip toward the floor.
  6. Absorb the finish in the low position with a flat back, then flow straight into the next rep.
  7. Repeat in a continuous rhythm for 15 to 30 seconds per round.

Common Mistakes

  • Slamming with arms only: the power should come from your whole body rising and dropping; arm-only slams fade fast and hit nothing hard.
  • Rounding the back at the bottom: folding the spine to reach the floor loads the low back; drop your hips into a squat instead.
  • Skipping the overhead reach: cutting the lift short shrinks the range of motion and turns slams into weak waves.
  • Pacing too cautiously: this is an explosive drill, so each slam should be a max-intent effort rather than a gentle tap.
